SCHOLARSHIPS
Elementary – High
School Merit Awards
What’s new for 2007? A
scholarship for almost every grade level in every music
group! Thanks to a dedicated Board of Trustees and
Scholarship Committee, there are now scholarships for high
school pianists and organists, middle school woodwind
instrumentalists and even middle school vocalists!
In addition, there is a new kind of award being offered this
year.
RMF offers two types of scholarships, “merit” awards based
upon auditions each Spring, and “need-sensitive” awards, for
which financial need is relevant but not the only factor
RMF’s Scholarship Committee considers.
Start your search for merit scholarship offerings with the
musician’s focus - piano, instrument of the concert band or
orchestra, organ, or voice. Offerings are presented by age
group, youngest-to-oldest. Corresponding need-sensitive
offerings appear on the bottom of those pages. We include
them so you know all available offerings of both types.
How do you apply for any of these awards? By completing the
application and making sure that the application, any
required supporting materials such as music teacher
endorsements, and the audition fee, if any, are postmarked
no later than the deadline, or hand-delivered to RMF’s
office by the deadline. We must strictly enforce deadlines
for the sake of the many students who apply on time.
Please note that the eligible students must live in Berks
County and/or attend school in Berks County (scholarships
requirements vary). Attending school in Berks County
includes homeschooling.
Please Note:
1. Teachers are now allowed to accompany students in grades
1-6. Scholarships affected by this change include Garrett
Balkcom (Brass & Woodwind, Grades 5-6) and Quartner Herman
(String students in grades 1-6 ONLY)
2. The audition fee for students auditioning for merit-based
scholarships is $20. Each additional sibling’s fee will be
only $10. (Example, the total cost of two siblings
auditioning would be $30) Checks are non-refundable and
should be made payable to Reading Musical Foundation. DO NOT
STAPLE YOUR CHECK TO THE APPLICATION. Requests to waive the
application fee due to special circumstances should be
directed to our office at 610-376-3395. The fee is applied
once per year, regardless of the number of awards for which
the student auditions.
Questions or comments regarding the scholarship program
should be directed to RMF’s Program Director, Keri Shultz,
at
610-376-3395. All questions are welcome! Our best wishes for
much continued success in your music studies. Your stage
awaits you! Scholarship Committee, Reading Musical
